For all I know the Dead played it as nothing more than a party song, but it does seem more than coincidental that the 5/6/70 show at Kresge Plaza opens with a big Dancin.

Good pt...with them you never knew if it's a "screw it! have fun anyhow!" notion, or (as they did in latter yrs) also a "make a statement on an issue, even if indirectly" (if that makes sense).
